I love this photo.
She looks like the first girl who ever wanted to be my friend beyond cousins and the mean kids at Sunday school; a girl who grabbed my hand on the first day of school and said, "My name is Sirena and I'm going to be your best friend." In her gaze I see the same intelligence and mystic wisdom I saw in Sirena's eyes that day and for many, many years to come. Thank you for taking me back to that moment when things were not so complicated.
